This is for you if

  • You’ve wanted to try this for ages, but a week is too much.
  • You’re curious about jhana, but not sure this method will work for you.
  • Your practice feels stuck, and you’re not sure another retreat will help.
  • You want to feel better in your daily life.

What the day offers

A low-risk way to start

One guided day from home, using the same core technique as our seven-day retreats. If you continue, your full fee counts toward a longer retreat.

A different way in

We work through relaxation, enjoyment and curiosity instead of effort, so practice becomes something you look forward to.

A practice that lasts

You’ll leave with a complete practice to build on. Past participants noticed a steadier mood and less resistance at work in the days that followed.

A new relationship with emotion

Learn to meet difficult feelings with curiosity instead of avoidance, and to access joy, love and peace more easily.

What participants say after one day

“I loved the retreat. Nothing but good things to say about it, honestly. The facilitators were excellent teachers and a joy to spend the day with.”
Nick CerneraOne-day retreat participant
“The number one thing is the playfulness aspect of it… I’ve been practising for about 7, 8 years… there’s a bit more playfulness to an otherwise dry practice.”
Aayush NaikOne-day retreat participant
“It was much better than things I had tried before… I have been feeling since then much more stable and resilient in my mood.”

What you’ll learn

Three pillars of practice.

The core technique rests on three skills you can practice for the rest of your life.

Pillar 1

Enjoyment

Connect with open-hearted emotions and learn how to enjoy and savor your experience.

Pillar 2

Relaxation

Release effort and tension so the mind can settle on its own, rather than gripping the object of meditation.

Pillar 3

Curiosity

Meet whatever arises, difficult emotions included, with interest instead of avoidance.

Frequently asked questions

No. Participants have ranged from people who had meditated for seven or eight years in Vipassana and Dzogchen, to people who’d used apps, to people with almost no meditation experience. The technique is taught to work for any starting point.
Most people don’t, and we’d rather tell you that now. What participants describe is feeling close for the first time, learning how to cultivate a pleasant state, and the confidence to keep going. As one put it: “I really do think at some point I’ll experience this. And that took a little bit of the pressure off.”
Often, yes. Our approach works with emotion, especially enjoyment, instead of concentration through effort. Several past participants came to us after Vipassana or app-based practice and told us this was the first approach that felt alive for them.
The practice isn’t tied to any religion and suits skeptics. You can also adapt it. Participants have used memories of loved ones, personal mantras and prayer as their way into jhana, and we encourage that.
Each person spends time in a small pod with a facilitator to work through their practice, and there’s open Q&A throughout.
They might. This is a feeling practice, and opening to joy can bring up other things too. Facilitators are there all day, and past participants described feeling safe and supported. Many found that feelings like sadness shifted once they were welcomed.
Yes. The full day is recorded, and recordings of the teachings, exercises and meditations are shared afterwards.
Book any 7- or 10-day retreat within 3 months, and your full $499 comes off the price.
